SILITEC Shield© is a surface coating obtained through high-energy but low-temperature plasma.
This amorphous silicon coating, transparent or semi-transparent, provides abrasion, scratch, and corrosion resistance.
It effectively protects metals and plastics from scratches and wear while also acting as an excellent anti-oxidation barrier—all without significantly altering the object’s aesthetic appearance, unlike transparent paints or similar coatings.
Deposition method
SILITEC Shield is obtained through plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition (PECVD or PACVD), with process temperatures that remain slightly above room temperature.
Objects are placed on specially designed supports and inserted into a vacuum chamber (at 10⁻³ mbar pressure), then saturated with gases, including silyl ethers and oxygen, which are ionized in a plasma state to form a homogeneous coating that can also penetrate undercuts and cavities.
The SILITEC Shield film bonds to the substrate through double bonds (for metals) or plasma grafting (for polymers).
This ensures exceptional adhesion, making it impossible for a properly applied silicon oxide coating to peel or degrade over time.
As a result, objects become protected from scratches, abrasion, corrosion, and oxidation by a homogeneous layer of amorphous quartz, securely bonded to the substrate without altering its appearance.
